With this refreshing and honest blend of melodies and lyrics he speaks of his dislike of a certain place in the world, one that as been sold on movie and tv screens way too many time, the downtown portion of Los Angeles. The song does not aim to attack but to showcase a shock that is in a way shared, it happened to me and to many that visit the city, hoping to find movie-like magic all over the place, to be left speechless by the reality of things.
This does not mean that LA is a bad city or anything, but sometimes we all forget that movies and tv shows sell fantasies and take away from the rough edges that are part of every city. I am pretty sure that now he knows better than to book a hotel in this area and to maybe explore other areas like Los Feliz, Santa Monica, Beverly Grove, etc.
Now moving away from the travel guide vibes and going back to the song, let's just say "Downtown LA" isn't for everyone and while your experience might not be the best, maybe you'll get a song out of it. We see on the screens from across the post that it’s a magical place where all the celebrities go to party and sniff coke 24/7. Having no clue about other parts of the city, I booked us a hotel in downtown LA, not knowing what type of area it was.
