My Personal Favorites of the ‘BLEEP’:

  • “Society is a Cult”: The simple reason is that it sets everything in motion in a way that prepares you for the raw, human and uniquely intoxicating experience that is brought forth by this album. Plus, the speech that is part of it really sets a fire in you.
  • “Killing for Fun”: Raw, honest, in-your-face and wonderfully inviting from start to end. It’s a track that speaks of the world in a way that does not aim to hide the fact that things are definitely not perfect around us. Plus, the old school vibes felt throughout this arrangement hits the spot just right.
  • “Bleep”: The title track, the one that lends it’s name to the entirety of the album, the one that feels so right and on point to really speak to all music lovers. It’s a refreshing tale that asks what free speech really entails and who or what gives life to the definition of it.

‘BLEEP’ by Subterranean Street Society

Rating: 5 out of 5.

In the music world there’s always an act that brings excitement to your speakers and to your life, something new and refreshingly original. For me, it was this band, the Danish/Dutch ensemble of Subterranean Street Society, and no, I did not know them before this lucky connection. Life had plans and that was for me to enjoy an adventure through the sonic realms that make up their latest album, ‘BLEEP’, and to discover a new favorite band for me to follow and share.

This album is indie rock, but it definitely shows inspiration from the punk genre, adding to that rebellious charm that comes so naturally to each song. It’s a ride through a one-of-a-kind rollercoaster, bound to take you through ups and downs that allow it to feel so human and palpable. ‘BLEEP’ is a fantastic body of work that understands how to make sure you are embraced by the stories that make it up, they don’t rely on fantasies, but on truths that speak to you from the moment you press play.

Listen closely to each track because the band has something special here, they have managed to fully give life to each of them individually. They each have something to say, a sentiment to share, a world to speak of and share with all, and they do so quite beautifully if you ask me. So let go of what you think you know to simply dive into the wonderful unknown dose of musical ambrosia that calls ‘BLEEP’ home. Enjoy!

UK Tour:

“The title track from Subterranean Street Society’s upcoming album “BLEEP” is a song about modern-day censorship in a digital age, where the big tech canons have taken total control of our public discourse. It retells a story about “Rocking In The Free World” by Neil Young, who removed his music from Spotify because he disagreed with Spotify podcaster Joe Rogan’s views on the COVID-19 vaccines. In this tragic-comic story, we are left to wonder where the line of free speech is drawn, who the gatekeepers of truth truly are, and if self-censorship will become the new cancel culture.”
