Harry & Bruce

Editor's Notes Playfully satirical and inviting blend of melodies and lyrics that explores the world of superheroes.

From the UK comes the amazing indie band Boxteles with a fantastic and fun soundscape, say hello to "Harry & Bruce". With this track they have some fun and play around with the old-trope of the superhero and how tragedy automatically brings some-sort of greatness (aka power/idea/etc.) into fruition. The track explores the harsh yet honest truth that we are not superheroes and tragedy is not automatically solved by some sort of magical revelation. Knowing this makes the song even more amazing, for it really understands the fragile truth of humanity and how those superheroes are fantasy that inspires, but fantasy nonetheless.

"Harry & Bruce" is exactly what I needed to hear lately and the rebellious touch of melodies and lyrics are sure to pull you in as well. So listen closely, use your imagination and fall prey to the magnetic pull of this amazing must-listen gem. Enjoy!

“Harry & Bruce is a satirical, tongue-in-cheek look at the superhero formula. The song started as a joke between me and Rex about the fact that when Peter Parker or Bruce Wayne lost a loved one, they got superpowers, but when our parents died (his Mum, my Dad), we got ziltch. No webs, no batarangs.

This gave me the idea to write the song. It’s funny and desperate. I find that when horrible things happen to me (and a lot of you, I’m sure will agree), we make jokes to cope. That’s kind of what this song is about. I’m also being completely honest when I say, “I can’t do somersaults” ‘cos I really can’t, I’d break my bloody neck.”
