‘Ghost Town Road (east)’ by Smallpools

Rating: 5 out of 5.

There’s no need for introductions when it comes to a band as amazing as Smallpools, they are indie royalty in my book and they grace these lands with their ‘Ghost Town Road (east)’ EP. With this amazing body of work they manage to take 2024 by storm as they get music lovers excited for the electric magic that comes forth the moment you press play. It’s an EP made of the best musical ingredients you can find: a voice that hits the spot, cinematic lyrics, and instrumental arrangements that embrace the sweet joy and inviting charm of pop and rock in such natural fashion.

The ‘Ghost Town Road (east)’ EP is a must in my book and makes for a perfect addition to any digital collection. It just knows how to hit the spot and give your senses a chance to escape from the grasp of reality and run into worlds so exciting and intoxicating. There’s no need to do anything but press play as you close your eyes ad let your imagination transport to realms unknown yet so yours from the moment they come alive.

There are 5 songs in this EP, and all of them have something special to offer, but 2 got me a bit more hooked than the rest, and they are: “Night Shift” and “Fake a Happy Face!”.

The first reminds you that life still has so much to give and even though there are times in which things are hard to see and truly grasp, there’s always a little more that we can give and push forward. It understands that we can all feel a bit lost, stuck in a routine that holds us down, but we can push and we should push because no one wants to be in a rut.

The second offers listeners a welcomed dose of escapism that manages to do it’s name just and put a (fake) smile on our faces. It understands that sometimes we just want to take a step outside all that the world seems to have set for us and just breath in and breath out for a little while. The weight of the world can be too much at times, and we all want a chance to press pause and just smile.

So listen closely to each of the songs that make up the ‘Ghost Town Road (east)’ EP and embrace the magic that resides in each of them. Dive into these worlds with open arms and make the ‘Ghost Town Road (east)’ EP a part of your life, a part of your road ahead and a bit of push to just live and smile. Enjoy!
