“Matinee is associated with a lot of different feelings for me. I remember skipping school to go to the movies & ridding yourself of any intentions that day.”

‘Matinee’ by Tim Atlas

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

From the US comes the absolutely amazing indie singer/songwriter Tim Atlas and he does so with his latest release, say hello to the ‘Matinee’ EP. With this amazing EP, he gives us a chance to escape from reality and explore a variety of worlds that feel so captivating and subtly cinematic from start to end. It’s an EP that embraces your senses with such ease, that you find yourself singing and dancing as the tracks come alive, one by one.

There’s no doubt that these tracks belong to the indie pop genre, but there’s also no denying that they play quite nicely with other genres as well (a bit of rock, jazz, electronica and a few other sounds here and there). It’s an EP that serves as a testament of talent, it showcases his voice quite perfectly, while allowing us to be captivated by the verses and melodies as they become one and pull us in. The ‘Matinee’ EP is a perfect addition to any digital (and hopefully physical) collection, it has that magic that we all crave and that sound that is simply mesmerizing from the moment you press play.

There are some favorites in this EP, like “Lighthouse” and “Lifeboat”, but in all fairness all the songs have that special something, even the intro knows how to get you excited for what’s to come. All the songs have a way with speaking to our hearts and souls as we let our imagination go and be wild and free within their verses. It’s a body of work that serves to not only get people hooked, but it’s also an invitation to see beyond what we are use to and discover new exciting artists.

So listen closely and fall prey to the sweet caress offered by each track that makes up the ‘Matinee’ EP. It’s a hit and you know it because that sound is so smooth, so hypnotizing and wonderfully human and inviting. Enjoy!

“It’s laid back and I think it makes you relaxed in a Sunday morning kind of way. Le Soir had us up all night long, and this EP begins when the sun comes up at 5 in the morning.”
