‘Big Dream’ by Broke Royal

Rating: 4 out of 5.

US-based indie band Broke Royals comes to us with a fantastic showcase of the magic they hold, say hello to the ‘Big Dreams’ EP. An exciting blend of stories that embrace the fragile and vulnerable nature of our human condition and the experiences that come with it. It’s an absolute must in my book and serves as great way to discover a band that has all the right ingredients to become your favorite musical discovery.

This EP also has a unique feature that I quite loved, the fact that while there is a fantastic main voice (Philip Basnight), he isn’t afraid to give the spotlight to his peers. This is found in one of favorites, “One Look”, where the song is given life by Rebecca Basnight, and “Toasted Almond”, a heartfelt song in which we are guided by Taimir Gore. Plus, the band is not afraid to explore various realms of music, giving song a uniqueness that is not only refreshing but welcomed.

The ‘Big Dream’ EP is a wonderful showcase of the always-evolving nature of music and how there’s always a song that is sure to speak to your soul. This EP has 5 songs, and each of them has its own spirit, its own charm, its own je ne sais quois that makes them so individually special. It’s an amazing body of work that is not only mature, but wonderfully human and personal while still allowing us to be part of them. So listen closely, let go of the extra noise the world seems to have always bring, and just enjoy each track for they each have a flavor bound to make your musical palate happy.
