“Life Support” by Belle Mt.

UK-based indie pop-rock band Belle Mt. comes to Wolf in a Suit with a wonderful and honest sonic creation, say hello to “Life Support”. With this stunning blend of melodies and lyrics, he explores the beauty and the fear that one can feel when thinking of the United States, as sometimes it seems to be on life support. There’s a local and global fear that things might take a wrong turn and such a beautiful place filled with wonderful people can take a path that’s not for the best. He does not aim to idealized the past or condemn the future but instead to understand and invite us to see what’s really part of our essence.

I know our country has a lot to offer and at times it seems to be the most beautiful woman in the dance but sometimes it holds a knife that could make you feel uninvited and not welcomed. Some might not understand this but trust me, there are some of us that love this country but what we see on tv or online pushes us to think that maybe the love isn’t mutual. We are all part of this adventure and we are trying our best to keep on moving forward but sometimes it seems like we don’t want to listen to voices that do not share what we think.

“Life Support” is a beautiful and honest piece that tells a story that many can relate to and thankfully it seems that there’s a semblance of that wonderful lady getting up from that bed and pushing forward. So listen with an open heart and aim to understand the side that sees the flaws but stills loves this land. Enjoy!

“Life Support was written in the midst of what may have been the most chaotic 12 months in modern US history. There I was in mid 2019 planning my own move from London to Nashville (intended for mid 2020) while watching escalating US civil unrest and division on the TV, I was torn between that image of America and the inspiration and warmth I feel when I visit the US to write, record and perform.

As I sat down to write about this I was determined that I didn’t want it to feel like I was kicking America when she was down, I toyed with the idea of using a metaphor and the scene in the song came to me; America cast in the role of the girl on Life Support and myself as the confused & delusional patient who has wandered out from the safety of the psych ward and ended up at her bedside. Convincing myself that we should be together with a vision informed only by one rosy picture I see on her bedside table illustrating an idealised vision of the past, determined not to give up on her and to see her returned to that.”
