‘Heartbreak Rodeo’ EP by Lily Meola
From the US comes the absolutely brilliant indie singer/songwriter Lily Meola and she comes to us with the ‘Heartbreak Rodeo’ EP. With this masterfully crafted body of work we are given a chance to explore a variety of stories that are sure to speak to our hearts and souls quite naturally. Her voice guides us through world she has given life and we can’t help but realize how amazing and talented she is, while also seeing that this is just a taste of what she can do.
With the ‘Heartbreak Rodeo’ EP she gives us pop, folk, Americana and a welcome dose of country and rock that just mixes so well, giving our senses a fantastic taste of musical ambrosia. The EP manages to take advantage of the 5 track that make it up in a way that allows each listener to feel the soundscapes theirs from the moment we all press that always enticing play button.
As always I do my best to pick at least two songs that just held on tighter than the rest, but this time around it was quite hard, each song was a refreshing and honest experience. I will break my rule and tell you to just listen to each song and find your own favorites. If you like country/Americana a bit more than the rest, then “Mar Vista” is your pick. If you want a little playful singing and charming storytelling mixed with a bittersweet yet honest tale, then “Heartbreak Rodeo” is for you. Folk-pop you say is your poison, then how about a nice serving of “I Need You” with a side of romanticism. You want your singing to be more rock and in-your-face while offering you pop with an edge then “Cowboy” would be my pick. Lastly, you like the classics yet still want to feel in-sync with the times, then the charming tale of “Gasoline” might have exactly what you crave.
In the end, know this, the ‘Heartbreak Rodeo’ EP is absolute perfection and a must for any music lover. Make sure to add to your own digital collection, because I am sure it will fit just right. Enjoy!
