From Texas comes the absolutely amazing and talented indie singer/songwriter Max Frost and he blows us away with the “Shelby Ave, Pt. 1” EP. With this stunning body of work he gives us a taste of the magic that dwells within him, guiding us through stories so surreal yet so palpable and human. It’s an EP that has all the right ingredients to be a great reason to become a fan of this fantastic artist and it’s only just a small showcase of what he has to offer.
Max isn’t new to the music world and it shows, because he is not afraid to test the waters and see what pop, rock and any other genre can become in his hands. It’s exciting to see and to hear this maestro come to us and give us the pleasure of falling prey to absolute bangers. This EP is perfection in my book and there’s something quite special about it that just speaks to my heart, my soul and all of my senses, getting me hooked from start to end.
While I honestly love all the songs that make up the “Shelby Ave, Pt. 1” EP, there were two just made it so naturally easy to feel mine. I love the bittersweet warmth and sad beauty of “The Ghost”, it connected with me for I know loss and I appreciate the fact that he understands that people are never fully gone, they are always around in one way or another. The other soundscape that just hypnotized me immediately was the vivid realm of “Stand By Me”. It’s a wonderful catchy yet down-to-earth mix of melodies and lyrics that speaks of the fragile truth of our human condition in a way that is sure to click for more than a few.
Don’t worry though, there is something for everyone within worlds that make up the “Shelby Ave, Pt. 1” EP. So listen closely and let go of all you know, and simply let yourself be amaze by the sweet magic of this mesmerizing EP. Enjoy!
