‘Sick Like A Kid’ by Underlay
Another day, another chance to explore a sonic body of work worth gold, say hello to the ‘Sick Like A Kid’ EP by Underlay. This uber-talented indie singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist comes to us straight from down under and does so in style, with an EP that is just…chef’s kiss…amazing. It’s hands down, one of the best I’ve heard and immediately became a favorite of mine, it just clicked, fitting just perfectly into my own personal soundtrack.
Don’t be surprised if after you dive into the ‘Sick Like A Kid’ EP, you find yourself a fan of Underlay and the stories he is sure to craft in the future. The verses are raw, honest and refreshingly down to earth and in your face, while blending perfectly with the fire that dwells within each of the instrumental arrangements. Each track offers us a chance to be part of something real, something palpable and something quite beautifully human.
My personal favorites are “Family Lines” and “Ought” but in reality, the whole EP is worth it, there’s no wrong song to dive into and I love that. Plus, I appreciate how the EP ends, with the track “Father’s Name“, bringing down the energy that surged from the other 4 songs and giving us something a bit more relaxed and personal to explore. So listen closely to each track and make sure to let go of what you think you know to simply connect with them all in a music-loving way and in an human and vulnerable fashion. Enjoy the adventure of the ‘Sick Like A Kid’ EP!
