“The War” by Amelie Patterson
From Canada comes the absolutely incredible indie singer/songwriter Amelie Patterson with the music video for the sonic masterpiece that is “The War”. With this song, she opens up her heart and soul and invites us to explore a bittersweet yet very real place that dwells inside many, yet we don’t know. The track embraces this realm in a way that is so human, so raw and so wonderfully honest. It’s without a shadow of a doubt one of the best songs I’ve had the pleasure of listening and the visuals definitely do it justice.
There’s something quite powerful about “The War” that will surely hit home for more than a few listeners, for it speaks with words that are vivid and palpable. It’s a soundscape that does not aim to sugarcoat anything or sell fantasies, but instead speaks of a darkness that unfortunately for some is part of their human experience. So listen closely and pay attention for there’s a valuable lesson inside the realm of this must-listen/must-see gem. Enjoy!

“The song is a plea to a loved one, asking them to stay and fight the war. It’s about riding into battle alongside them, knowing that you’re fighting phantoms and they are fighting very real demons. It’s about finding your place and your strength to keep going. Living with mental health and addiction is a chaotic and challenging experience, one that is also so human. I’ve learned so much and this conversation represents what I wish I had known to say and what I think the response would be had they known how to say it.”
