‘“She Called It Love,” is a song for when you’re both thinking it but it’s too soon for those three little words. I wrote it in the midst of falling in love just two weeks after my boyfriend and I started seeing each other. The song was inspired by a chance encounter we had at the beach when a woman approached us and asked urgently if we had a phone. She then smiled and said, “I just have to take your picture. You two look so in love.”
Awestruck and awkward, we smiled for the camera. Before we could blink she handed the phone back and disappeared into the sunset. Just like the lyrics, “as the ocean drank the sun, we turned around” and both had tears in our eyes. It was one of the most magical moments of my life.
What followed has been the healthiest love I’ve ever experienced. My EP was inspired by heartbreak and the self love journey that followed. “She Called It Love” is the beginning of a new chapter. I hope this song can remind people that true love should make them feel safe and seen and held and free and is worth waiting for.”
