The uber-talented Tom A. Smith continues to show the world the fantastic range of his talent, and his latest, “Man Overboard”, is a perfect showcase of this. The young UK-based singer/songwriter opens up his heart and soul and gives us all chance to explore a world so personal, so human and so perfectly imperfect. He embraces the fragile nature that comes along with being human in a way that invites us in and reminds that we are fragile as well and there’s nothing wrong with that at all. He understood how to connect the dots and allow each verse to connect with the next one, pulling us in and letting be part of this tale he has crafted.
There’s something special about this soundscape that manages to caress our senses and make us feel as if this personal tale was ours as well. “Man Overboard has without a doubt the best lyrics I’ve ever written. I struggled at the beginning of lockdown and it was songwriting and sending home recordings to my management that kept me focused. The first line summed up my mental health at the time (I put a brave face on it, I put on a front, but even the sharpest tools I have are feeling blunt). From start to finish I’m proud of the lyrics in that song”.
