“Mother” by ÄNN
Uber-talented indie singer/songwriter/musical goddess ÄNN comes to Wolf in a Suit with the honest and insightful sonic gem that is “Mother”. With this refreshing exploration of the self and the experiences that were part of her youth and her path towards adulthood she opens up her heart and soul and delivers a powerful yet soothing soundscape. The track is perfection from the start and blends melodies and lyrics in a way that flows with ease and caresses your very existence while connecting the dots and making you feel at ease. The track hits me in a way that saddens me but also brings a smile to my face, for it does not remind me of my story but that of one of the most important women in my life, my late grandmother. She was the union of two who loved each other but were seen with angry eyes due to the difference in their skin and sadly she lost them young. She traversed through her youth without them and sadly received the same eyes for her skin was different but her heart, always so full of love, did not answer back and she pushed forward. To me, she was the most magical creature in the whole world, and thanks to her I understood from little that we are all different and that the tone of our skin does not make us less or more than others, the beauty of our hearts is what matters most. Thank you ÄNN for telling your story and bring peace to those who can connect and a valuable lesson to those who can’t. Enjoy!
Hopefully one day we can find a cure for the disease that is racism and we can all push forward hand in hand.

“With this first Single of my Album-Countdown, I wanted to take you on a litte journey back into my past. „Mother“ is probably the most personal song I have ever written. I’m remembering my childhood self, which, overwhelmed, questions the world, after being confronted with racism for the first time. Whenever I sing the song, I feel like I’m 8 years old again and all I want is for my mom to tell me that everything is going to be ok. I hope this song will be heard by whoever might need it.”
